Reflexology

Reflexology is a touch therapy that is based on the theory that different reflexes on the feet, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body and reflexologists work these points and areas. The reflexes in the feet are actually "reflections" of body parts.

How Does It Work?

With specific hand and finger techniques, reflexology provides stimulation and thus, causes responses (relaxation) in corresponding parts of the body.  Relaxation is the first step to the body's return to a state of equilibrium.

If a particular part of the body is out of balance, the corresponding reflex may feel tender or sore during the treatment.  This is called a"stress cue".  Wherever it is found on a foot (face, hand or ear), it is a sign that stress and its effect have begun to accumulate in the corresponding parts of the body.  The reflexologist observes the cues of stress and applies pressure techniques to relax the indicated stresses.

The goal of a reflexology treatment is to create a relaxation response keyed to the individual and his or her stress, and where the client has one to one attention and supportive touch in an empathetic listening environment. Reflexology can be used safely alongside standard healthcare to promote better health.
